Watch ON THE LOT tonight, there are only 2 episodes left. The final four go into tonight to see witch 3 will make the final and go for the million. Remember, regardless of the bad ratings, and that not a whole lot of people watched the show, the prize is still substantial. The winner will be hired by Steven Spielberg and Dreamworks, for 2 years, at a salary of $250,000 a year. The job description is vague, but basically he will get an office at Dreamworks and report to Mr. Spielberg himself. Over the 2 years the winner will have the other $500,000 to spend on developing projects. So in a way Spielberg will start a small production company with the winner, and for 2 years develop material into film projects. For any aspiring or knocked around veteran filmmaker in the business, this is a dream come true. The winner will literally hit the Movie making jackpot.
The pity is that the public hasn’t really picked up on this. I find that most people who have watched the show this season are part of the entertainment industry in New York and L.A. The industry is certainly watching, and the reward is something that any Hollywood insider would be envious of. The show ultimately didn’t work nationally for many different reasons. I think the concept for a TV show revolving around filmmakers and behind the scenes of film production, is a good one and can work. ON THE LOT was botched early on and never recovered a big enough audience to see the most interesting episodes. What happened? The explanation for that, I’ll have to get into another time, once the show is done for good.
Right now our attention turns to the final four, Sam Friedlander, Adam Stein, Jason Epperson, and Will Bigham. Four very talented aspiring filmmakers.
Amazingly Sam, from New York, and Adam, from Miami, were classmates at USC film school, and had worked on student projects together there. To think out of 12,000 applicants to the show, 2 classmates end up in the final 4 is amazing. I’ve worked with both of them, and they are both students of the game. Very knowledgeable and always super prepared. It was a joy to work with both of them. I would work with either of them in the future, anytime. I’m sorry to say I think one of thsee 2 gets voted off tonight. Both creative talents, but someone has to go home and one of them will go to the final.
Jason, is a country boy from Kentucky, and the real, good guy of the competition. With his refreshing personality, his hard work and sense of humor, he became everyone on the show’s best friend. I feel like a show, and a competition like this is all about a guy like Epperson. Giving someone a chance, from a place not known for it’s filmmakers, and watching him become a Hollywood director. Whether he ends up winning this thing or not, he has grown the most, and he will make it as a director in the business, I’m sure of it. He’ll be in the final.
One of the biggest let downs for me personally working on the show, was that I never got to work for Will Bigham, from Texas living in Glendale, Ca. Looking at Will’s films throughout the season, he clearly had some of the best movies. I got to know Will, hanging out with contestants at their bungalow, he sincerely is one of the nicest people on the show. Meticulous in his planning, and with the unique tones and the worlds he created in each of his films, makes him the odds on favorite for the million. Sorry I didn’t get to work with Will, but I consider him a friend, and hope to work with him some time in future. He is going to have a long career as a director. He’ll be in the final, and will probably win.
It should be interesting, make sure and tune in, on FOX 8PM, tonight. The final episode will be on Wednesday night on FOX at 8PM.
