It was another sad day for ON THE LOT, the really talented and good guy, Zach Lipovsky, was voted off the show. Zach’s short films, from the beginning of the show were outstanding, and he seemed to be a big favorite early on. His films wowed us, with their creativity and inventiveness. He has a great eye, and undoubtedly will be directing movies in the very near future. In my estimation, I feel like Zach was the best filmmaker on the show, he wasn’t the best story teller, and that’s why he’s gone. Another reason might be that the other 4 contestants had bigger fan bases that vote for them every week. Zach’s fan base was big early on, and dwindled as the contest wore on.
The first film I worked on for On The Lot, was with Zach, on his short “Die Hardly Working”. His knowledge of shots and visual effects were at a professional level. For me it was like working for an experienced director. I feel like we made the best movie of the season that week. I was very proud of it, and enjoyed working with Zach immensely.
It’s so hard now, because, like Gary Marshall said on the air last night, we’re like a family at this point. I bonded with Zach over the last couple of months, and I was pulling for him. I also feel close to the final 4, Sam, Will, Adam, and Jason. It’s ultimately a game show, however and someone has to go every week. I saw Zach right before he left, and he was pretty down. I told him he did a great job, to keep his chin up, and appreciate the experience he had.
And then there were four, I have worked with three of them, we never worked with Will. It’s really getting down to it, for a million dollar deal. One more will be voted off next week, and three will go to the final for the million. It was America’s Choice Logline Week. The Logline was, “…a man wakes up in a dress.” The remaining 4 had to make short films continuing the story from there. We worked with Sam Friedlander, on his film “Dress For Success”. This was our crew’s second time working with Sam, we did his action week film, “Key Witness”. I found in prepping for this film, that Sam had a problem wrapping his head around the logline. To a point where he was resisting it, and making it difficult. The first time we worked with him he was excited about it, and a very decisive director. This time most of the way through, it was the opposite. He really battled to make sense of his story, and to make it cool. He came around, and it came together in the end. I think we did end up making a cool little movie. It’s tough competition however, and the other 3 movies were very good. Sam could be on the hot seat next week.
…Totally DEEP!
