I’ve been real busy working on the Steven Spielberg / Mark Burnett reality TV show, On The Lot. The second short film I worked on as a 1st AD/ Consultant, to the contestants, aired last Tuesday. It was horror week, and I worked with contestant Shira-Lee Shalit, on her short “Open House”. The first week I worked with Zach Lipovsky on his film, “Die Hardly Working”, it came out great, and the judges and America agreed. I was very happy in the office all week, knowing my man did really well. I also got some good airtime on TV with Zach, which was nice. It was David May who got voted off, he’s a great guy, and promising filmmaker, but clearly had the worst film of comedy week.
My experience on Horror Week was a little different, I like Shira-Lee a lot, and I think we made a very good film. She is a different kind of director then Zach. He was into the images telling the story, Shira-Lee is a actors director, her focus was mostly on performance. It seemed like Zach was more prepared in the sense of knowing all the shots he needed to make a great film. I felt like Shira-Lee’s movie was missing a film making hook to make the movie more interesting. I told her that a cool visual effect might have been a good addition, but she wanted to rely on the strength of her direction of the actors. I had a problem with Shira-Lee’s script from the first time I read it, I’m afraid it might not be a very horrifying horror movie. The judges did kind of agree, although they thought it was well done, they didn’t feel it was among the best of the night. Shira-Lee was fun to work with, and I wish her all the best. The guest judge was Eli Roth, director of Hostel and Hostel II.
The show is on Monday 8PM, FOX, this week, because the MLB All Star Game is on Tuesday night. Next week it will return back to its regular time slot Tuesday 9PM. So tune in tonight and see how Shira-Lee did in the voting, another aspiring filmmaker will be voted off. Also check out all the films from last week, I worked with Hilary Graham on her film, “The Legend of Donkey-Tail Willie”.

Loved “Donkey-Tail Willie” by Hilary Graham, although I could have done without the black frame. Her work is original and funny, and she seems to take the judges’ advice and suggestions seriously. How is she to work with from your point of view?
