Live Earth 24 Hour multi continent concert- Wembley Stadium, London

The Live Earth Concerts kicked off Friday night, spanning seven continents. Singers and bands from all over the world, called out to bring attention to environmental activism. It was all put together by Former Vice President, and Academy Award winner, Al Gore. I’ve been critical of Gore in the past, with all his belly aching about losing the Presidential election, his claim that he invented the internet, winning an Oscar for making the most boring movie of all time, and his 100 mph Prius driving son. I have to say, he certainly pulled this off. As I tuned in to Live Earth, with a skeptical eye this weekend. I expected Gore and celebrities of the entertainment world to be preaching down to us, hypocritically telling us that we are the problem and how we better wisen up. I was surprised to say, I didn’t find much of that. What I found was a series of concerts, with the biggest names in music, and it was about the music. The message was certainly there, but it was these performers giving something back, and for the most part the performances were good, and the concerts first rate. I didn’t feel beat over the head by the message of environmental activism. In an interview with Dave Mathews, during the show, I think he summed it up for the music world.
He said, ‘hey we’re a touring rock and roll band, we are polluters, but what we can do is be conscience of it, and try our best.’
I like that accepted responsibility, and I didn’t feel the holier then thou attitude, that I expected from the show. Well done, Mr. Gore, you got your message across without boring us to tears, and you entertained us. Hey I might even try one of those crazy looking new light bulbs. lonestar_13w_fe_iisb_600x.jpg

“Put all of this energy in your heart and help us solve the climate crisis,” said former Vice President Al Gore, appearing onstage at the end of the final concert, staged at Giants Stadium in New Jersey.
With shows in London, England; Sydney, Australia; Tokyo and Kyoto, Japan; Shanghai, China; Hamburg, Germany; Johannesburg, South Africa; and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil — and even a performance by a band of scientists at a research station in Antarctica — organizers called Live Earth the biggest musical event ever staged. Gore and more than 100 of the biggest names in music — including Bon Jovi, Smashing Pumpkins, Madonna, Shakira, John Mayer, and The Police.
