Isaiah Washington fought hard to keep his role as Dr. Preston Burke on “Grey’s Anatomy.” After twice using an anti-gay slur, Washington was doomed to lose the biggest role of his career because of timing, a track record of volatile behavior and pressure within the industry. His “pattern of behavior” represented a potential liability that was too much risk for the Walt Disney Co.-owned companies, a source close to the production said. The source was not authorized to comment publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity. The studio declined to exercise his contract option for another season — Washington would have earned about $2.7 million in salary — and he was dumped shortly after the May finale. Washington said he was “saddened” by the outcome.
“I can only apologize so many times. I can only accept so much responsibility,”
“… Isaiah will go on and do what I love to do. And I have to go about the business of letting people know what’s written about me is not the truth.”
He apologized publicly, to his colleagues and to GLAAD. He filmed a public service announcement for GLAAD and the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network.
“We did everything that was asked of us” by ABC, said his publicist, Howard Bragman.

He blew 2.7 million for calling a gay guy a fag. WOW, I would be saddened too. He just didn’t know when to shut the F**k up. He thought he could make a few PSA s and get away with it, but the Hollywood Gay Mafia, caught up with him. Word of advice, don’t mess with the Gay Mafia in Hollywood, they’re tougher then The Sopranos. The Gay influence in the industry reaches far and wide, and is very real. If they want you, they’ll get you.
I still can’t get over the 2.7 million, for “Grey’s Anatomy”. That show sucks! I tried to watch it many times, and every time, I thought why I was watching such a bad show. Who watches that crap?
For the record, I worked with Isaiah on the movie, OUT OF SIGHT He was always very pleasant, and professional. I can’t believe he spoke about himself in the third person, I hate that. He is really one of the nicest, guys, I’ve worked with. Every time I see him around town, he goes out of his way to say hello to me. Always remembering me and our experiences In Detroit on that movie. I think he got a raw deal on this one. Isaiah is a good guy. 2.7 million? OUCH!
