I couldn’t believe the amount of calls I got from people who disagreed with my review on The Sopranos finale. I said I liked the episode, and how in it’s subtlety, mirrored real life. I pointed out how David Chase had done this with the shows storyline all along. Some things come to a conclusion and some don’t, but no matter what life continues on. In the finales amazing scenes with Uncle Junior, played excellently by Dominic Chinese, in the state mental facility. Chase sums it up well, yeah Junior might of been a big boss, but here he is with no recollection of it at all, and he can’t even remember where he hid his money. It was all meaningless for Uncle June at this point, and his life goes on staring out a window.
I think some fans expected Tony and The Sopranos to go down in a blaze of glory, like the final scene of SCARFACE or something. The previous episode “The Blue Comet” had some of that, and was an instant classic. #86 “Made In America” was Chase bringing The Sopranos back to it’s regular routine. The Sopranos never had the Hollywood TV endings, why would the finale episode be any different. I have heard it was reported that HBO received so many e mails and post on it’s website complaining about the last episode, it had to temporarily shut down the site, I’m not sure I even believe that.
When people told me today that they were disappointed and upset, and that they had invested 8 years into the show and felt let down. I told them, they missed it, that they didn’t get it. The genius of Chase and The Sopranos is and always was, that the show never did what was expected by the fans, or speculated by the media. The show always did what it wanted to do. So stop complaining, if you can watch the last episode again, and really think about what Chase and the actors were trying to get across. It is a better episode the 2nd time you see it.

The finale also gave me a chance to get together with Speedy Pete, and some others for our last Sopranos viewing party. Something we had done loyally on Sundays for 7 seasons. I made my famous Sausage and Peppers, and some gagoots (italian zuchini). We had a bunch of other Italian specialties, and plenty of vino. We ate and drank and watched The Sopranos contently. We won’t be doing that anymore, but like the final message of the show, life will go on. …Totally DEEP!

**The Sopranos – FINALE PLOT THEORY UPDATE**
Amazing the calls and e mails with reactions to the finale keep flowing in. The latest theory that I have been hearing a lot today, is that Tony got shot in the head at the very end, and died. Recalling a conversation that Tony had with Bobby about what it must feel like to get shot and killed. Bobby said something to the effect, it must be like when you get shot in the head, you see 10 seconds of black, before you die. Reflecting on that conversation with Bobby is interesting in relation to the ending. Tony and Bobby did talk about it, and that is what happened at the end, the screen went to black. I think Chase might have had that on his mind, it would explain the 10 second of black for sure. I do think we would have at least heard a gunshot before the black.
I think Chase was leaving all the options open, he did want people to pick up on that. To say Tony was shot and is dead, I don’t buy that, but everyone has their opinion. I think the main thing David Chase wanted to achieve in the last episode, was to have everyone talking about it. He accomplished that for sure.
… TOTALLY

Mikey, I agree. It was a great episode and a great way to end it all. They tied up a lot of loose ends and left you thinking with the final scene. That’s good writing. TV typically dumbs things down for the masses who need answers and closure because they can’t think for themselves. Chase kept it real and interesting; something a lot of shows can’t be accused of.

You got it Eddie, if the people who are complaining would just stop and think about it, they would realize it too.
    Thanks.

I agree. I don’t get it…Do people need things spelled out? It is suppose to be open to interpretation.

That’s the beauty of filmmaking for god sake!!

Come on people…put some thought into it!!

Sorry to be so blunt but those that don’t like the last episode are dumd. It was a brillent ending leaving it up to you. What better way. In the end the mafia carries on just like Tony’s family. He is a regular guy, made in America. He makes up with Uncle June, AJ, Janice. Paulie is his most loyal guy and now at the top. One of the best all time scens is outside with Tony and Paulie and the cat comes over to sunbath as Paulie is….priceless.
